What We Believe

Rebuild Africa is a faith-based development organization, dedicated to rebuilding post-conflict communities in Africa.

Founder

Rebuild Africa's Founder and President, Bill Massaquoi, became a Christian as a teenager. His strong commitment to faith, not only formed the backbone of his own journey from poverty, but also constituted the main reason he turned down a well-paid job in the USA in order to help post-conflict African countries enjoy the security and opportunities so common elsewhere. Today, apart from his other responsibilities, Bill is also a pastor in Monrovia, Liberia.

Different Religious Traditions

Rebuild Africa recognizes that Africa is a complex mixture of Christianity, Islam and traditional religions. Conflict is often exacerbated by those who justify actions by utilizing 'religious' goals, or byinflaming traditional tribal animosities between those of different religious backgrounds. The population in Bill's home county in Liberia (Lofa) is itself a composite of Muslim, Christian and traditional religion, typically with much syncretism.

As 'Peace-Building' is fundamental to community development, as well as an important humanitarian goal, while not compromising its own integrity, Rebuild Africa respects and collaborates with organizations and individuals from different backgrounds who wish to work towards the same goal. Similarly in its peace-building and reconciliation work it seeks to foster mutual respect and understanding among community members, so that individuals are free to live with hope and security according to their conscience and as constructive members of society.
